Why so long until
an English language site for VERTICAL AFTER ?
This site here is the first site run by the band's own people.
Although the band has appreciated the great fan-run sites, particularily
the German ones,
Kick and Stewart swore that the web was just a fad, and hoped it would go away.
The fear of the web has died with Stew, and now with V.A.'s distribution by CD Baby
the net has become unavoidable.
Is VERTICAL AFTER signed ?
V.A. was with Canada's largest independent distributor Cargo Records out
of Montreal until
they went shiftily 'bankrupt' in 1998 without paying out it's artists,
labels, and indies. If the
trial period for this web site and other indie distribution and retail
efforts create acceptable sales
for the new BLOODY MURDO album, the band might elect to not engage any
offers from indie
or medium-size labels, and KEEP ALL THE DOUGH for themselves, for once.
How did Stewart die ?       How did Hart die ?       Why did Keith retire ?
Cobain, Wood, Hendrix, Joplin, Rhodes, Clarke, Hoon... nuff
said ?
Have VERTICAL AFTER toured since Stewart died ?
YES, but less of those 6-week tours of 25-35 cities like the band routinely
did up until 1998.
The band took some time off in 1998, Kick spent some time in Europe with Kings
X on tour, filmed
shots there for videos of songs for the 'Pop Goes Death' album. The
band re-assembled and
finished the album without Stu. After that V.A. regularily did
cross-country tours 1999-2002, shows
as support act for bands Kings X, Dayglo Abortions, Zimmer's Hole, and
performed at the Milwaulkee Metal Fest, among other gigs.
What is the Gary Numan cobra story ?
Get a copy of the Steve Malins assisted autobiography of Gary Numan, 'Praying
to the Aliens'
(UK only), on page 283 the unnamed journalist in Seattle who got to see
Gary jump on a chair
shreiking was none other than Kick of VERTICAL AFTER.
Where wasBloody Murdo recorded ?
Greenhouse, Vancouver. Part of 'Pop Goes Death' was recorded at
Greenhouse as well, but
Doug Pinnick of KINGS X had a favorite studio in the KINGS X hometown
of Houston, so that
album was completed and mixed there. 'BLOODY MURDO' was recorded
almost entirely at Greenhouse, in the same studio as Nickelback, Mathew
Good Band, Aerosmith, and countless
top selling bands also. Some of the new album was recorded with
the mobile digital equipment
of Stuart Carruthers of Grip Inc.
What was it like working with Doug Pinnick of KINGS X ?
Like working with a Tibettan guru who smokes pot. Doug added an
engineer who had been
on the team for several Grammy winning Latino albums and had worked on
the KINGS X
'Ear Candy' album. Doug and Kick had been batting around the idea
since the mid 90's for
Doug to put his midas touch on a Vertical After album. Houston was an
oven, but the cajun
food was good for the soul. Mr. Pinnick spent a lot of the mix with
his eyes closed, trancingly
moving the controls like Scotty beaming in a spirit from the other side.
